Have Yourself a Vaping in Sydney Guide

What is the first thing you think about when you think of the word “vape” or “vaping” (same banana really)? Maybe you think of the vape juice? Or the e-cigarette? If you know some complicated stuff then perhaps it is the mod or pod you are thinking about? But perhaps you are thinking more simple, the smoke that comes out from one’s mouth when they exhale?

Well, it actually all depends on who you are. One person may think this, the other may think that. Maybe you are still even clueless about this whole vaping thing. The possibility of the initial thoughts is endless. But, if you are a non-vape user, more or less, the first thing that pops into your head is actually the question “is it safe?” and if you are a vaper, then perhaps the first thing you will think of is, “it is a great reliever”. Either way, as mentioned, different people, different thoughts. And is not that how life really is?

But enough of getting philosophical, let us dive in a bit deeper in what exactly is vape? Here, we are looking at it from the perspective of a newbie. If you are a veteran user, there is no harm in reading about the basics once again. Get a feel of what you are really doing in your daily life.

Vaping typically requires an electronic cigarette and vape juice. Sometimes, add-ons or extras are included. Nicotine, an addictive substance, is optional, but it is highly discouraged in Australia. They are all available in a vape shop near you, or online if that is more of your thing.

The first ingredient is electronic cigarettes or e-cigarette or e-cig as it is sometimes called. The battery-operated device is used by the vapers to be able to inhale an aerosol, which contains flavourings, nicotine (which again, is an optional additive), and other chemicals. Ths shapes and sizes vary. There are the cig-a-likes (which look as if they are tobacco cigarettes), cigars, pipes, or even times like pens or USB memory sticks, and those two are daily necessities. There are some other devices, such as the fillable tanks which have different models as well. No matter, the designs and appearances do not matter as they all operate in a similar manner and have the same components inside them.

There are mainly four different components in a vaping device.

  • What holds the liquid solution is called the cartridge or reservoir pod. The liquid is the one that contains varying amounts of nicotine, flavourings, and other chemicals.
  • An atomizer (the heating element)
  • A power source (typically a battery)
  • A mouthpiece that the person uses to inhale

The process is very simple, really: When the cigarette is puffed, the battery-powered heating device is activated, the liquid in the cartridge is then vapourzied. The aerosol or vapor, which is the end result, is what you inhale. Now that is vaping.

The vape juice is also known as e-juice or e-liquid. When used by the e-cigarette device, the e-juice is turned into vapour. To be able to make some vape juice, it must be mixed and done in a highly professional laboratory. Chemistry is primarily involved in the blending of the e-liquid ingredients.

1. Propylene Glycol (PG)

PG is an organic substance. It is known to have been used by people for over a century and research has been conducted on it and the results show that it is safe for humans to consume it. There is PG in everyday products like toothpaste, shampoo, and even some medications. You are most likely using PG as you brush your teeth or wash your hair. It has a smoke-like appearance when it is vapourized. The fake mist of smoke being used in production if you have ever attended a concert is, most often, PG that is being vapourized.

Do note that PG absorbs water, this means that it has a mild dehydrating effect. When it comes to flavouring, the important substance is still PG. However, nowadays, the contents of vape when PG is involved is not as low as 50%. And vegetable glycerin evens its dehydrating effect out.

2. Vegetable Glycerin (VG)

VG is a substance that is extracted from the palm plant; it is a thick and sticky liquid. Although there are other sources of VG, palm plant is the main source that companies utilize to make their vape juice.

Research shows that VG is deemed to be safe for human ingestion. Food production, medicine, cosmetics, and more are known to have VG. It can also be used as a sweetener due to its sweet taste. In addition, it is a preservative, which is used in a variety of food preparation. It could also be found in a majority of lotions and cosmetics.

Almost all e-juices that are sold in the market have up to 50% of VG. Due to its ability to create a lot of vapour, this is a good liquid for e-juice. But in comparison to PG, however, this vapour is more subdued.

3. Flavouring

There is food-grade in all flavours of e-juices. However, food-grade is not suitable for all flavours that are in a vape-juice. Just to make it clear, there are ingredients that are not suitable when vapourized. It is then very advisable to buy vape juices from a company that is professional and actually blends and bottles e-liquids in a good, working environmentally-friendly laboratory setting.

A state-of-the-art facility and a team of highly qualified technicians are necessary to fully accomplish the complex composition of a vape juice.

4. Nicotine (optional)

Nicotine is an ingredient that is pharmaceutical grade and is drawn out from tobacco plants. Children and expectant mothers should not use this ingredient as it is an addictive substance and should not be used by children or expectant mothers.

There is now a new type that has emerged though. Nicotine salt Vape Juice is taken from the salt in the stems of the tobacco leaves. This is advantageous for those who want to vape more nicotine but do not want to endure the harshness of it.

Just always make sure to know that nicotine in Australia is highly discouraged and thus, not sold by many retailers.

A Lesson on Vape

Vaping may seem like such a modern action. However, it is just the latest inventions that make it seem so modern. Note that vaping has been known to be an active activity even during Ancient Egypt using methods like hot stones for herb vaping. And the very first shisha was presented to India thousands of years ago. These introductions have given way to the thing we know now as vaping.

Like mentioned, ancient times were known to be build up the first vaping community. But a man named Joseph Robinson was the one who brought forth the idea of the electronic cigarette, or e-cigarette, in 1927. Although it was Herbert A. Gilbert who made vaping famous in 1963 through his “smokeless non-tobacco” cigarette. In the mid-2000s, Hon Lik, created the first contemporary e-cigarette.
